Just an idea to touch on a realistic feel: how about adding some small clouds below his muzzle to create an idea of how cold it might be?
A very lovely picture. I often have trouble making my horses so strong-looking, if you know what I mean.
I might suggest, though, making the stomach a little bigger, unless of course you keep it the same and add lines to make him look hungry? I'm an awful hypocrite, as I have trouble with everything to do with the genus equus, but just an opinion I'd like to throw in. 8D
